political issue: spanish fascism repression in Catalunya

  1. Good start! The only thing I want to see is something done with the white background.

  2. Agreed. Wheres the background? I dont think it needs to be anything crazy detailed.

This might be a stretch but I keep thinking it would be cool to see the painted part cut out and pasted onto newspaper (backed on cardboard for support) To contextualize it without having to paint to much more? Or even paint on the newspaper as well!

  3. i have no idea where catalunya is... show the viewer in context of its continent where it is?

is the boot only cracking it??? or would the boot much rather destroy it catastrophically, what if the shape was 3D, and it had massive fissures running thru it, was crumbling and there was stuff flying through the air.

i don't have compassion for cars with bugs smashed on their windsheilds, or countries with squished spiders on them either...

  4. i think that it'shard for us because we dont know the context of this, which is OK in political cartooning i think, but maybe a little big more specificity about the oppressor? I think it would be fine to just write on the boot, but i think that it is just nonspecific enough to be confusing

  5. maybe I don't know about the issue well enough, so that's why I don't really get it. Therefore I can't really say much about the context. I agree with people that you need background to look more finished and maybe more representative element on boot?

  6. The composition of the foot and the country are really dynamic, and I think that the representation of the boot and pants is simple but it works. I guess like everyone says - it's not really dire enough for something that sounds so intense as "fascist repression." There just has to be one more thing, I guess, that ties the idea all together so that we can understand it a little better.

  7. I'm really enjoying your use of texture in this piece.

This is a very nice composition and a great political illustration, but i would extend the map to the borders because the white space doesn't work that well with the yellow.

  8. The Catalunya part is clear because of the flag but the image falls a little flat because the red and yellow pop out so much, so it doesn't make sense with the boot spatially. Maybe you could change the direction of the lines so they go with and not against the perspective. Also, I think there should be more clues to indicate that it's referring to spanish fascism repression and not just a generic boot.
