My assignment was to do a political piece using watercolor...I based it off of two Time articles titled "Why Washington Is Tied Up In Knots" and "Why Washington Can't Fix Itself"

haha i think the little boys are so well painted! obamas shirt gets a little muddy though. Maybe blue would have been a better choice than black for shading it?
ReplyDeleteI love the idea, I think it's so funny. I really like obamas's expression saying calmly like "chill, boys, chill..." and holding ice creams. I think the ice cream colors are little confusing though, maybe little chocolate chip would help? :D and I don't know about the bright yellow for background color.
ReplyDeleteI like it but I think you should work more with transparency of the watercolor. I think the cartoon reads clearly.
ReplyDeletethe drawing works great, i love the way you handled value and light on the children fighting.
ReplyDeletei wish there was more white. whether you tried it or not... yellow infects this whole piece. and its not your fault, but yellow is my least favorite color. so yeah... haha i'd like to see more white in obama's shirt
I love how Obama was drawn. Like how his feet/legs are shorter and get smaller than his torso. Gives it that cartoony look executed nicely!
ReplyDeleteBright yellow is really difficult to make work, and I think you almost do it. Maybe it's just the combination of red blue and yellow together that turn me off a little. Also - i would raise the horizon line juust a little, they look a little awkward like they're about to fall off a cliff. The idea and the composition are fabulous and funny - I really think you captured the satirical spirit of political cartoons in the expressions and body postures. Like Obama looks like a weary dad whose patience is wearing thin and the boys' expressions are hilarious too.
ReplyDeleteI really like this image, it reads clearly, and your colors are gorgeous. The only thing I would suggest is making your purples a little more saturated to balance out the harsh yellow background.
