Cat Power

This is a fairly simplistic piece, because the singer is of the minimalist genre, according to Wikipedia. I used the font that is seen on one of her other albums, which I will post below my image. I'm not really sure what else I should do with this. I was thinking a comic-book style "pow" shape, with the spikes and everything. I'm also considering trying gauche out on this, since I want the color to be flatter. I believe I can take this further, but I need feedback on how to do it.

  1. I feel like you should really listen to her to get a 'feel' for her work. It's very calm and jazz/blue oriented. Perhaps play with some more abstract imagery or a real pop art inspired portrait of her or something, I really don't feel like the cat works. Cat Power is just a stage name, her music doesn't really give off the 'POW' vibe.

  2. PS. I can give you one of her albums if you want to get a feel for her stuff.

  3. Ok, thanks, I think I would like to borrow her album, if you don't mind. I was listening to her myspace music, and I couldn't get a very good grasp of her style, so I think her album would help! Thank you!

  5. alli- i agree with Chelsea (chelsea, thanks for offering the music!) about the sound matching the design. I would also say the following: 1.) i wouldn't include an image of a cat at all... not only because its isnt representative of her music, but because its the "first thing" that comes to mind and that is rarely the best thing. 2.) the design is really sparse--- its possible that with color things will become more interesting, but i think even that (especially with no value assignments in this sketch yet) its a lot to ask of the color to carry the whole image. 3.) when you do the re-design, think about the font--- the font you choose should be a character in the piece. If you dont feel comfortable making one up just yet, then dont! but do spend some time in illustrator or photoshop looking at fonts and choose one that will work for your purpose. the overall image of this poster should reflect the artist's overall feel. *dana
