Finals sketches & leaning towards the one on the right for movement.

Will probably stick to acrylics & gouache

  1. I love the one on the left. I like the way the petals fly in that one and I love the swept away look the figure has.

  2. Such beautiful drawings! Can't wait to see gouached.

I agree that the one on the right has a nice movement, and I like the element of a sort of "chase" taking place. Sort of a nice metaphor for love.

  3. Beautifully rendered and a very cool idea.

My only question is: What message do you want the viewer to take out of the piece? Trace brought up a good point with a metaphor for love, but at first glance I understood it as her chasing a pedal that fell off her head. This isn't a huge problem since it remains very valentiney overall, but just a thought to consider as you move to the final.

  4. I love the movement of the figure on the right, but I think the composition on the left is working better. The placement of the figure and the leaves move around the piece better. Absolutely amazing drawings! Can't wait to see the final

  5. Both drawings are great, i agree that the left works better because you have opposing diagonals within the piece.
However, they keep me thinking about the idea, not that it is confusing but maybe it is just the way of your story-telling that is indirect. Good luck! :)

  6. I really really like this idea!
And I agree that the second one is a lot stronger movement wise. The only thing I would suggest is perhaps breaking the strong downward horizontal in some way?
Everything at the moment seems to be going to the lower left, which conveys lots of movement. But perhaps add a petal swooping down to the lower right just to kind of break things up.

  7. Wow, you have a great sense of movement in both of them! I love the diagonal tilt in the second one, but I also love the rendering of the rose in the first one, so I can't decide which I like the most. I read it as love is a pursuit, is that what you were going for? Anyway, great job!

  8. I think the one on the right is definitely stronger. It somehow feels more like a valentine. Both are really beautiful but I think the posing in the second is better for the assignment.

  9. I really like the composition on the Left, I get a fall feel from both of them which I'm not sure if when its colored would change that but either way I sort of want to see both of the feet. I really like them though great sketches.

  10. I, too, think the image on the right is stronger.

Every part of this figure we see is drawn very well.. but I'm more concerned with what I'm not seeing. Namely, where her legs connect to her body. The leading leg seems to continue straight on, past where her hips should be, and the rear leg would need to have a very upper-leg in order to connect to her body.

  11. The two are very different. The left makes me think that the flower is her head and she's helplessly falling into petals in the wind. This could symbolize falling in love?
In the right one, I think the flower looks like more of a hat. The movement of the dress is great and it feels like a chase. I think the arms look a little stiff, a little zombie-esque. I would bend one of them. Also, the petals on the left recede into the background. I think if you treat the leaves in the right piece the same way it will give the piece more depth.
