Aly's Valentine Sketch

So I sketched the whole thing out then played with colors and text on Photoshop.
Here's the initial sketch:
I know it's a little early to submit but whatever. hehe I'd rather not forget! :)

  1. This is such a clever take on cupid! The arrowhead design looks sinister, especially with the green slime/poison liquid with the faces. Only thing that I'd remove would be the text (since we aren't supposed to put any) Awesome! :)

  2. At first it took me a minute, wondering why the slime was on the arrow, but the above comment really helped me. I would change the background colour or try to make the idea more readable.

  3. I think the idea is a little confusing as is. But I like the concept over all and definitely think it could be worked with. Maybe make even more clear the small scenes taking place in the slime.

  4. I agree, I would change the bg color so that the mood is more dramatic?

  6. Great idea! I think the colors are working well with the typical valentine color for the background really makes the green seem unsettling. I like the cropping on the colored version, I think the image works well with that shape but we're not supposed to have words, so maybe there is a different way to make that work.

  7. The green slime gives it a bit of a gross feel. But I'm into it. However, like Marissa, I didn't understand the concept entirely until I read the first comment. I think you can have fun with this, and see how far you can push it without giving a generic representation of cupid.

  8. I think we all agree the concept needs some work! :) Just work it out a bit more and make some sketches before moving on. I think I like where this is going.

  9. The slime is definitely confusing. Took me a while, but I read it as cupid is just wreaking havoc instead of traditionally making gooey love sentiments. Maybe if you had something less subtle, like cupid sniping out a target?

  10. Yeah, I think if you want to have it read more as Cupid's arrow, you'll have to show more of Cupid. Maybe change the angle to get more of the chubby winged baby thing in there.

  11. It took me a while to figure this out and the comments above helped but I'm still confused about the scenes in the goo? Is that Cupid's life, and his heart broke so he's out for blood? Or is that a happy couple that he's going to shoot so they'll fight? I would change the bg color because it blends with his skin. Think about how you can characterize the hand to make it seem more like cupid? Or how much more you can show of his body without making it blatantly obvious.

  12. I have to agree with everyone that said that they couldn't understand that this was meant to be cupid? The green throws me off. I feel like I need something more to help me understand that this is a valentine's day illustration.
